Brighthive SaaS Platform

Brighthive is a company with a passion for responsible data sharing. They started because they saw too many organizations wanting to share data and collaborate — but failing to make it happen. Brighthive wanted to fix this, so they decided to build a cloud-based platform to make cross-enterprise data sharing and collaboration possible.

Brighthive worked with my team to turn their vision into a practical product that would differentiate them in the competitive $73.1BN industry.

My Contributions

  • Guided the overall creative direction of the platform

  • Reviewed existing historical research and made product recommendations

  • Worked with a senior designer to create style guides, wireframes, UI and other design artifacts

  • Assisted in ongoing client discussions concerning Brighthive’s differentiators & value proposition in the data sharing space

Project Obstacles

  • Determining Brighthive’s value proposition in the data space was a moving target considering the industry is rapidly evolving

  • Client was a startup and frequently required approval from it’s board of directors to proceed with minor changes

  • Designing a product that was both highly functional and could elegantly display many types of data

Outcomes & Solutions

  • A fully designed, functional MVP release - with a backlog to support two additional releases

  • A newly designed platform website with updated brand copy

  • Helped client secure additional seed funding through investment decks and other design artifacts

Design of the platform took heavy inspiration from a hive, showing the overlapping of shapes, diverging and converging at different points which represent data sharing and complex collaboration.

Shared Data Asset Catalog

This screen shows off the Workspaces feature, which provides collaborators with a shared infrastructure to browse available assets via metadata and shared or restrict for project usage as desired. Users also have the ability to quickly search through assets for specific use cases and apply quick filters for even further search customization.

Project Data Flow

Here, relationships between data, organizations, transformations, data products, and destinations are represented. Seeing the project visualized helps any project members orient themselves in the project and its status.
